. | A founding member of the CIAR's Research Council until 1996, Lorna is hailed as a brilliant scholar and a natural leader. She joined the Liberal party of Canada, becoming national policy chair in 1975 and vice-president in 1980. In 1984 she was named to the Senate by then Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau. In 1992, Marsden left her senate position to accept the presidency at Laurier University. On August 1, 1997 Lorna Marsden became President & Vice - Chancellor of York University.
