Gordon MacNabb has been Director for the Institute for Robotics and Intelligent Systems since 1993. In 1954 he graduated from Queen's University with a degree in Civil Engineering, and went on to work in a number of different positions. He has worked with Uranium Canada Ltd, and has been the Deputy Minister for Energy, Mines and Resources, Canada, as well as he has been President and Chief Executive Officer for PRECARN, to name a few.

Gordon has received countless awards and honorary degrees for his influential work in robotics engineering.
