Robert Church is a graduate of Olds College, with both a B.Sc and a M.Sc. from the Faculty of Agriculture and the University of Alberta.

He has done influential research in developmental genetics, genome organization, gene expression and embryo manipulation and his work has resulted in over 200 publications, many invited presentations. He has received countless awards for his work and developments.

In 2000, Church was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada and in 2001 he became chairman of the board of Canadian Science and Technology Growth Fund Inc. He has sat on countless committees, such as PENCE, and the Canadian Biotechnology Advisory Committee. Volunteer for 20 years, board member for 18, Robert was also the Past president of the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede. He is also an active figure in part with the CIAR.
